A bright end to September, cooler weather on the horizon

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The last Sunday in September will be another warm one in northern and central Wisconsin. The sun shines from wall to wall and afternoon temperatures are above average. Calm weather will continue Sunday evening and Monday. A cold front will move through the region on Monday evening without much fanfare. Cooler conditions will be most noticeable on Tuesday with strong north-westerly winds. Milder weather returns on Wednesday and will remain windy. Temperatures will mostly be in the upper 60s later this week. Rain is possible next weekend.

Sunglasses will continue to practice to end the weekend on Sunday. Sunlight will be common throughout the day, with afternoon readings peaking in the mid-70s to around 80. While record highs are not expected today, Rhinelander would have the best chance of breaking its record-breaking high of 81° set in 1948 .

A cold front is moving through the Badger State on Monday evening, bringing clouds and a chance of showers to parts of the Northwoods. Following the front, early October will be colder and there will be strong winds. A fair amount of sunshine and daytime temperatures only peak in the upper 50s to low 60s. First wind gust advisory Tuesday afternoon at 25 to 30 mph. A warm front will move through Tuesday night, leading to a milder but still quite windy Wednesday. Highs in the upper 60s to around 70.
