A Virginia man charged after he crashed into a Campton building with a 3-year-old child inside

CAMPTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Virginia man was arrested after a semi carrying a three-year-old passenger crashed into a newly renovated business in Campton on Thursday evening.

According to the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Department (WCSD), deputies were dispatched Thursday in response to a crash on Main Street in Campton.

Authorities said 50-year-old David Dugas of Virginia was driving on Main Street when he allegedly “collided with a building, causing significant damage.”

Deputies said the sheriff’s department was assisted in the investigation by the Kentucky State Police Department (KSP) and the Wolfe County Volunteer Fire Department.

According to law enforcement, a three-year-old child and a woman were also found in the vehicle. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Dugas was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance – first offense

  • Possession of methamphetamine – first offense

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Second degree wanton endangerment

Dugas remained in the Three Forks Regional Jail on Thursday.
