Heavy rain likely in Kerala till October 1, yellow alert in 9 districts today | News from Onmanorama

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Sunday, forecasting heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm.

According to the weather department, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to continue in most parts of Kerala till October 5. The IMD also warned people to avoid visiting areas prone to landslides, landslides and waterlogging during this period. People living in sensitive areas are advised to move to safer places.

Other possible impacts of heavy rain include poor visibility, temporary traffic/power disruptions due to flooding or uprooting of trees, crop damage and flash flooding.

Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into the sea as a storm is expected to prevail on the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast till September 30. The expected wind speed will be from 35 to 45 km/h, with gusts up to 55 km/h.
