Life imprisonment for father after raping his daughter

Ladysmith District Court sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old biological daughter in November 2023.

The court heard testimony that on the day of the terrible crime, the girl came out of the bathroom and was accosted by her father in the bedroom. He raped her, and the crime was interrupted when his sister entered the room, noticing that something was wrong.

The victim’s aunt played a key role in bringing the perpetrator to justice by reporting the incident to the police and giving evidence in court.

The applicant’s grandmother and the doctor who examined the victim also presented evidence, highlighting the serious trauma and physical harm caused to the child.

Justice was served and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was happy to accept the high sentence handed down to the accused.
