Bonneville County Man Sentenced for Possession and Distribution of Child Abuse Material

BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A Bonneville County man has been sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography.

According to the office of Attorney General Raul R. Labrador, Bonneville County District Judge Bruce Pickett sentenced 27-year-old Elias Daniel Medina on Wednesday to 15 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a child by distribution of sexually exploitative material and sexual exploitation of a child by possession of sexually exploitative material.

Pickett sentenced Medina to 15 years in prison, with two years suspended and 13 years indefinite, the office said. Medina must pay back court costs and register as a sex offender upon release.

“Our ICAC investigators and prosecutors work hard to keep predators off the streets and bring justice to these tragically young victims,” Attorney General Labrador said in a statement. “I am grateful for the partnerships built across the state and the awareness created in our communities, and for the judges who take these crimes seriously when determining sentences.”

The Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received tips that Medina had child abuse material, the office said. Investigators obtained search warrants and found hundreds of files containing the material. Medina also distributed the material to other users. The subjects of the material were minor girls, approximately 3 to 13 years old.

Idaho Falls Police Detective Jared Mendenhall led the investigation, the office said. Assistant Attorney General Madison Allen prosecuted the case.
