Man crushed to death while working on vehicle in southern Berks

A Brecknock Township man died Thursday evening in a crash that occurred while his vehicle was being serviced, the Berks County Coroner’s Office said.

According to George Holmes, chief deputy district attorney, Ethan S. Ayscue, 22, was changing the oil in the driveway of his home in the 4200 block of New Holland Road when the jack slipped and the vehicle fell on top of him.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Ayscue but were unable to do so.

The first call came in on Thursday at approximately 5:11 p.m. and involved a man who was pinned by a vehicle and suffering from cardiac arrest.

At 6:46 p.m., Ayscue was pronounced dead by Todd Kegerise, deputy coroner.

Holmes said the cause of death remains officially unknown until a toxicology report is completed, but it was likely an accident.
