Employee punches boss; driver leads police car chase: Brook Park Police Chronicle

BROOK PARK, Ohio –

Attack: Brookpark Road

A 28-year-old Cleveland man attacked a 26-year-old Parma man during an argument Sept. 8 at Victory Toyota of Brook Park, 13775 Brookpark.

Both men were employees of Victory Toyota detailing. The younger man, supported by a witness, told police that he had been arguing with the older man over the older man not showing up for work for several days.

The younger man, who was the older man’s superior, said the older man punched him twice in the face. The older man grabbed a bottle of alcohol and chased the younger man around the parking lot.

The elderly man drove away in a car. The witness, who was a co-owner of the detailing shop, wanted the elderly man to be asked to leave the property.

Police called the elderly man and told him that if he returned to the Victory Toyota he would be arrested.

Escape and Evasion: Interstate 71

The driver gave chase to police around midnight Aug. 31 on I-71.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop the driver’s vehicle, a gray Toyota Matrix, on 71 northbound in Brunswick for speeding. The driver failed to stop.

Brook Park police parked on 71 near Snow Road and waited. The driver drove past Brook Park police, who began chasing Matrix.

The driver again failed to stop. The Matrix reached 120 mph on 71 north. At Ontario Street in Cleveland, the driver turned onto Interstate 90 east. Police called off the pursuit.

Parma police believe the driver was a 34-year-old Parma man they knew. The man was wanted for carrying a concealed weapon in Summit County.

Brook Park police were unable to confirm the driver’s identity. They called the owner of the Metrix, who was the mother of the Parma man.

The owner of the car told police she was the only person who had keys to the car but did not know where it was.

Scam: Wolf Road

Around noon on September 4, a Wolf Road woman told police she had sent money to the scammer’s account.

The woman said she had set up an online store through Amazon. She received a text message from someone claiming to be a director of a limited company that could help her business grow.

The woman paid the LLC $20,000. After that, she stopped contacting the company.

Driving under the influence of alcohol: Brookpark Road

A 45-year-old Brook Park man was arrested on September 7 at approximately 12:30 p.m. after he caused a car accident in the parking lot of Park Place Suites, 14011 Brookpark.

The man was driving through a parking lot when his vehicle hit another vehicle. He smelled of alcohol. The man admitted to drinking four or five White Claw Hard Seltzers.

The man refused to undergo field sobriety tests, claiming he knew he was drunk.

Driving under the influence of alcohol: Snow Road

A 29-year-old man from Brook Park was arrested around 2 a.m. on September 4 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police stopped the man’s Honda Civic in the westbound lane of Snow near Smith Road after noticing the vehicle’s taillights were not working.

The man admitted to drinking one double shot of whiskey at the bar. His eyes were glassy and bloodshot. He smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

The man failed a field sobriety test.

Theft: Smith Road

A 44-year-old Lorain woman was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 after she stole a 16-ounce container of Everfresh juice and a six-pack of Snickers bars from the Marc’s Deeper Discount Store at 5725 Smith St.

A Marc’s security guard saw the woman hiding merchandise in her shirt. She walked toward the store’s exit without paying. The security guard stopped her.

Robbery: Brookpark Road

Two concrete carts were stolen between 6 p.m. Aug. 30 and 8 a.m. Sept. 3 from the parking lot of United Rentals, 13960 Brookpark.

Someone cut through the fence on the west side of the United Rentals property to gain access to the property.
