Lake City Man Charged with 30 Animal Cruelty Counts

LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) – A Lake City man is behind bars after malnourished and injured dogs, cats and chickens were found in his home.

On Thursday, officers with the Lake City Police Department responded to the scene at 705 SE Putnam Street in reference to suspected animal neglect.

The homeowner, 73-year-old Ronald Nims, received multiple complaints from the Lake City Humane Society before LCPD officers conducted a code inspection of his property.

During the inspection, LCPD officers found several animals requiring medical attention due to various injuries and malnutrition. An additional 13 animals were found in cages without food or water.

The Humane Society rescued all the animals on the Nimsa property.

Nims is charged with five counts of torture, inflicting pain, serious bodily injury or death, 13 counts of keeping animals without sufficient food/water and 12 counts of mutilation and deprivation of torture.

After his arrest, Nims was transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.
