Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping niece

Visakhapatnam:A special POCSO court in Visakhapatnam sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for raping his 14-year-old niece. The court asked the government to pay compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim.

Police said that the accused Gudla Venkata Ramana went to the victim’s house in 2023 and was told that she had gone to a grocery shop. He went there and forcibly took her to the outskirts of Peda Gantyada in Visakhapatnam city and raped her.

The New Port police station registered a case under various sections of POCSO and filed a chargesheet in the court. After the hearing, Justice Anandi delivered the verdict of conviction.
