Suspected Miami Beach Sex Offender Was a Registered Sex Offender. Here’s What We Know

The man allegedly responsible for a violent assault on Miami Beach’s Beachwalk earlier this week was an Illinois sex offender who failed to keep his registration status up to date, records show.

Keith Hill Jr., 30, was arrested Friday by Hollywood police after fleeing the scene of his attack in Miami Beach on Tuesday. As of Saturday, Hill was in Broward County Jail on charges of giving authorities a false ID, failing to register as a sex offender and failing to comply with the sex offender registration law.

He will face a minimum of assault/kidnapping charges once he is extradited to Miami-Dade County.

According to the Illinois Child Abuser Registry, Hill is a sexual predator who was charged between 2014 and 2015 with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 16. The exact details of the crime are unclear.

According to the registry, Hill was not in compliance with registration requirements and was last homeless in Freeport, Illinois.

According to police, an unknown woman was roller skating on the Beachwalk Tuesday night when Hill attacked her from behind.

Court documents show that Hill has no criminal record in South Florida, other than the alleged assault.

Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones said in a written statement: “As the legal process moves forward, the MBPD remains committed to closely monitoring the case and working with the Miami-Dade District Attorney’s Office.”
