Police say Springfield man attacked child with ghost gun

A Springfield man was charged Sunday after police said there was a firearm in his apartment and he assaulted a child and another person.

Police said 39-year-old Angel Vazquez was arrested around 6:05 p.m. on Sept. 15 and charged with possession of a firearm without an FID, possession of ammunition without an FID, possession of a large-capacity magazine/ammunition feeding device, resisting arrest, assault and battery, and assault and battery on a child with injury.

Police said that on September 15 at approximately 4:50 p.m., a report of a disturbance was received at a residence in the 0-100 block of Spring Street.

Police said officers were told an adult and a child had been attacked and the suspect — later identified as Vazquez — may have had a weapon.

Officers went to the apartment to talk to Vazquez, but he did not answer the door, police said. After 15 minutes of “exchange of words,” Vazquez opened the door and police said they saw a gun on the couch next to him.

When Vazquez realized police could see his gun, he tried to close the door, police said. But officers entered the apartment anyway and took the gun, police said. The gun was loaded, police added.
