A 7-year-old boy drowned in a northern Harris County swimming pool Wednesday night, authorities said.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office deputies responded to calls for a child found unresponsive in a swimming pool in the 7300 block of Fox Forest Trail in Humble.

Upon arrival, emergency workers attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency workers, according to the gendarme’s office.

The mother was looking for the boy after he arrived home around 4 p.m., Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Wallace Wyatt told KHOU.

“She called the sheriff’s office after checking the neighborhood, but it was too late,” Wyatt said.

At least 15 minors have drowned in Harris County this year. Children ranging in age from 7 months to 16 years have drowned in Harris County pools, bathtubs and a river, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
