UK weather: Met Office issues eight-hour yellow storm warning | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for areas across the country.

The alert is due to be in force between 12pm and 8pm on Friday 20 September and will cover south west England, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, London and south east England, the East of England and Wales.

Britons have been warned that the weather conditions could “cause some disruption”, including damage to buildings from lightning strikes, as well as travel delays and power cuts.

The warning said: “Although many places will remain dry, thunderstorms and heavy rain may cause some disruption in a few places on Friday.”

The alert also includes advice on what to expect.

The document said that “some damage to a few buildings and structures due to lightning strikes is likely” and that “driving conditions may be disrupted by water spray, standing water and/or hail, which will increase travel times by car and bus.”

He added that delays in train services were possible and that short-term power outages and interruptions to other services were likely.
