Four Albany police officers were injured in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon.

Police Chief Eric Hawkins said the incident began at 4:40 p.m. when officers responded to a domestic violence call in the area of ​​Slingerlands Street and Second Avenue. They had requested more units because of a resisting suspect.

While attempting to detain the man, both officers discovered powdered cocaine that the suspect had on him.

Two separate units responded from different parts of the city. Those units were in the area of ​​Madison Avenue and Quail Street and ended up crashing into each other just before 5 p.m., according to Hawkins.

All four officers have head injuries, according to Hawkins. Two have serious injuries. One has a serious leg injury. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan said all four injured officers have been contacted.
