David 6 First Alert Forecast

David 6 First Alert Forecast

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Partly sunny skies and a brisk wind from the south brought another warm and humid day to the region Monday afternoon. Early morning showers and thunderstorms over central Nebraska ended after sunrise, but brought us some cloud cover that helped keep temperatures a few degrees cooler than yesterday. Despite that, afternoon readings ended up being 5 to 10 degrees above average for mid-September. Humidity also helped make it feel more like summer outside. Temperatures will remain fairly warm through the evening, not dropping into the 70s until 8 or 9 p.m.

A small wave of energy moving east across Nebraska overnight should spark at least a few isolated showers or thunderstorms after midnight, more likely closer to sunrise Tuesday. These storms are developing initially over central Nebraska but could move into eastern Nebraska, including the Omaha metropolitan area, but sunrise. There is at least a small chance that you could see some rain early in the day. The rain still looks very scattered, so not everyone will see any storms. The showers should taper off by midday, transitioning into the afternoon at the latest.

Morning showers and clouds will likely keep temperatures cooler early in the day, but we should see more sunshine in the afternoon. This combined with a steady southerly wind will help push temperatures into the mid to upper 80s for our afternoon highs, which again puts us well above average for this time of year.

Thursday and Friday look drier, although an isolated thunderstorm on Thursday cannot be ruled out. Temperatures remain very warm, with Thursday likely the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Rain chances return to the forecast Friday night and into the weekend as a stronger storm system moves toward the middle of the country. On and off rain is possible on Saturday, with slightly higher chances of thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. This should bring temperatures down a bit, although highs are likely to climb into the 80s next week. Some areas of heavy rain are possible on Sunday, good news after a very dry September so far.
