First Weather Alert: Drought streak could break this week

It’s officially been a week since we last saw rain at Rochester Airport, and we’re looking at at least one more day of dry weather on Tuesday before the chance of rain increases slightly on Wednesday.

This is due to tropical moisture and a developing area of low pressure that is bringing flooding and wind to the Carolinas. This system will slowly begin to lift north Tuesday and Wednesday, but will hit our stationary area of high pressure and dry air above us. This will help direct moisture away from us.

Still, we will see some additional clouds Tuesday and Wednesday, with a few scattered showers possible later Wednesday, although our rain chances appear to be decreasing. As this low dissipates, the clouds will give way to more sunshine again on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures for our last week of summer will remain warmer than average, peaking in the lower 80s for most of the week.

This weekend also looks nice and dry at this point, with temperatures staying in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Our blocking pattern could finally break early next week, but even that is not certain at this point. For now, enjoy our sunshine.
