On Monday afternoon, officers said a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in what police say is a domestic violence incident in Milford.

Milford police responded to 80 South Bow Street around 9 a.m. Monday and found a husband and wife inside their apartment in the apartment building, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said at a news conference Monday.

Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said during a news conference that he was among the first responders to arrive at the scene.

The woman was found with multiple stab wounds and had lost a significant amount of blood, Tusino said. She was taken to a hospital for surgery and was in critical condition Monday afternoon, Early said.

DA said police found her husband in the basement with a single stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple has four children, Early said, ages 5, 7, 10 and 14, who were at school at the time of the incident. The children are currently with family members.

Tusino said there was no threat to the public and that authorities believe “all parties involved are being considered.” He said there was not enough information to determine who was responsible for the domestic violence incident.

What happened Monday morning in Milford?

Police received a 911 call for assistance at a home on South Bow Street. When Tusino and other officers first arrived, he said the scene was “chaotic.”

“There were people outside. There was a significant language barrier,” he said. “A lot of people were pointing at the house.”

Tusino said the woman initially appeared to be “mortally wounded.” Early told reporters that the woman was resuscitated by Tusino and another front-line officer, who are trained paramedics.

“She was gone. They brought her back,” Early said.

Police have not identified the couple because their entire family has not yet been notified, the DA said. The investigation is still ongoing and active.

“She has undergone several major surgeries and of course we are hoping for a good outcome from her treatment, but we are cautiously optimistic,” Tusino said.
