Homicide Sergeant Sidney Miller told a news conference the infant may have come from the area or someone may have planted him there to dispose of his body.

“We’re going to be looking for surveillance footage, we’re going to be talking to neighbors — knocking on doors,” Sargent Miller said. “If there are any children, teenagers, who may have been in a situation where they may have been involved, we’re asking them to come forward.”

The Institute of Forensic Medicine has taken the infant and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Scientists will continue the autopsy during the investigation.

Babies Abandoned in Texas

This isn’t the only case in Texas where someone threw a newborn in the trash.

According to court documents, surveillance footage captured the incident, showing a passerby who heard the baby and rescued him from the trash. The stranger who found the baby, along with its placenta and umbilical cord, called paramedics, who were later seen wrapping the newborn in blankets while his hair was still damp.

The newborn was taken to a local hospital and was in good health.

The minor, who was traveling unaccompanied, told Houston police she “had no other choice” because she didn’t want her boyfriend to break up with her.

Houston Chronicle In June, three more babies were reported abandoned in the city, prompting some groups to express concerns that Texas’ strict abortion laws may have influenced the actions.

The law prohibits performing, inducing or attempting an abortion except when the life or health of the pregnant patient is in danger.

For this exception to apply, the abortion must be performed by a licensed physician. The patient must have a life-threatening condition or significant impairment if the abortion is not performed. In addition, the physician must attempt to save the fetus, unless doing so would increase the risk to the patient.
