Tonto Dikeh, security guard charged in court for assault, trespassing and more; respect police invitation

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh and her bodyguard Gbenga have been summoned to the Wuse Area 6 District Court on charges of assault and trespass.

Elvis Abuyere, the CEO of Skyewise Group Limited and owner of an Abuja-based car dealership, filed a complaint under number CR/359/2024.

In a court summons dated August 6, 2024, seen by PUNCH Online on Friday, Iyanna ordered both defendants to appear in court on August 24, 2024, to face the charges against them.

He added that Dikeh approached the vehicle manufacturer in January with a proposal to purchase the all-new 2023 Changan Uni-K model from Mikano Motors.

The complainant, said to be Mikano’s dealer, later paid Mikano N85 million for the car, promising that Dikeh would pay the remaining amount in instalments within three months of receiving the car.

Dikeh paid an initial deposit of N37 million which was paid in the form of a used 2008/2009 Lexus. She made an additional payment of N3.5 million but failed to pay the balance by the end of April when the payment was due, thereby breaching the terms of the agreement.

Abuyere repossessed the vehicle from Dikeh on May 1 after unsuccessful attempts to obtain payment of the outstanding debt.

Dikeh later paid N20 million, N17 million and N5 million respectively, taking the arrears total to N2.1 million.

The actress contacted the car repair company on July 30 to arrange for servicing of her car, which was then taken in for maintenance.

Once the repairs were completed, the car manufacturing company demanded the actress to pay the remaining amount of N2.7 million.

However, sources said she gained unauthorised access to the complainant’s corporate office in Maitama, Abuja, along with her bodyguard and two female companions, leading to the alleged incident of unlawful trespass.

The actress faces further charges of assaulting the complainant and some of his employees, as well as disrupting the normal operations of the car company. A group of four people allegedly vandalised the property and threatened to use social media to damage the complainant’s business reputation.

They were later arrested by the police.

This morning, the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Monitoring Unit summoned Dikeh to his headquarters in connection with an investigation into charges including defamation, cyberbullying and forgery.

According to the letter of invitation signed by AA Elleman, head of the IGP monitoring unit, the actress’s name frequently appeared in the investigation conducted by the unit.

According to the invitation: “This office is investigating a case of defamation, forgery, lying, cyberbullying and incitement reported to the Inspector General of Police, in which your name and the names of other persons were prominently mentioned.

“It is in view of the above that we kindly request you to attend a hearing with the undersigned through SP Aminu Abdullahi Sokoto on 7th August 2024 at 10:00 AM to shed more light on the allegations.

“We would be very grateful for your simple cooperation in this regard.”

Muyiwa Adejobi, a spokesman for the armed forces, who said Dikeh was invited following a petition against her, also confirmed she was later released pending investigation.

“She was only invited to respond to a petition filed against her, after which she left the unit and the investigation is ongoing.”
