Who is Akili McDowell? The TV star accused of Houston murder

Texas authorities charged Billions Actor Akili McDowell has been charged with a deadly shooting that broke out in the parking lot of a Houston apartment complex and left a young man dead.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Thorntree Apartments in eastern Harris County on July 20. There was a fight between two individuals, during which Cesar Peralta, 20, was shot and wounded.

McDowell, 21, fled the shooting before police arrived. Emergency medical services arrived shortly after and pronounced Peralta dead.

HCSO homicide and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to conduct the follow-up investigation and ultimately charged McDowell with murder.

His manager Jonell Whitt said Newsweek“This is an unfortunate situation and I pray for Akili and those affected by this tragedy. I respectfully have no comment at this time.”

McDowell was taken into custody by members of the HCSO Criminal Warrants Division without incident and is currently incarcerated in the Harris County Jail on $400,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators continue to encourage anyone with information to contact the homicide unit.

Who is Akili McDowell?

McDowell is an American actor known for his roles in television and film.

He became famous for his performance in the television series David makes the man and appeared in other projects like Criminal activities And Red pearl. His work often features a range of dramatic and complex characters.

David makes the man, airing on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, centered on a teenager named David, played by McDowell, as he navigates relationships between his magnet school peers and drug dealers in his troubled South Florida neighborhood.

His IMDb profile indicates that McDowell has appeared in episodes of Billions And The Astronaut Wives Cluband recently appeared in the film The Waterboyz.

The Waterboyz won a Best of ABFF Award at the American Black Film Festival and is an official selection at this year’s Bronze Lens. It will screen in Atlanta from August 21-25.

The story follows two young men whose lives intersect on the streets of Atlanta: one strives to make a living, while the other intends to wreak havoc and dominate the streets.

McDowell’s presence is unconfirmed.
