Ex-president Donald Trump The 2024 campaign issued a surprising statement Tuesday in response to Minnesota governor’s decision Tim Waltz (D) being chosen as Kamala Harris Vice Presidential Candidate. Statement by Trump Campaign Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt was quickly ridiculed online for taking a dig at Walz for “adopting a policy to allow convicted felons to vote.”

Trump himself is, of course, a convicted felon, as he was found guilty of 34 separate counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush payments during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“It’s no wonder San Francisco liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast presidential candidate Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate — Walz spent his term as governor trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State. While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland when the cameras are off, he believes rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks,’” the statement begins, adding:

From proposing his own zero-emissions agenda to suggesting stricter emissions standards for gasoline-powered cars to adopting policies that allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is passionate about spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide. If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: Like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz dream in California is every American’s nightmare.

Pundits and journalists criticized the campaign’s statement online, calling out the blatant hypocrisy of criticizing policies that would benefit their candidate if he lived in Minnesota.

“Trump Campaign Attacks Tim Walz for Restoring Voting Rights to Convicted Felons. Who… Wants to Tell Them That,” Huffington Post Jokes Jennifer Bendery.

Republican Party lawyer turned anti-Trump activist George Conway, he replied, “You’d think Trump would *like* that Walz thinks convicted felons should have the right to vote.”
