6 Day of the first weather alert: Record heat possible on Saturday

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – After an unseasonably warm and record-dry September, the first weekend of October may also be one for the record books. Highs are expected to reach the low to mid 90s this Saturday, near highs from 60+ years ago. That’s why we’ve designated Saturday as Day 6 of the First Weather Alert.

Due to windy conditions and a long period of dry weather, we will also have high fire danger concerns on Saturday.

The highest temperature ever recorded in October is 96° in Omaha and 98° in Lincoln. If the daily temperature record is broken in any of the cities on Saturday, there is a good chance that the highest monthly temperature will also be broken.

This makes for a hot game for Nebraska on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the mid-90s when the football game starts and will likely rise a bit by 4-5 p.m. If you’re heading to Lincoln this weekend, be sure to plan accordingly for the heat.
