One dead after Meredith home fire; two escapes

Oct. 1 – The state medical examiner ruled that 54-year-old Timothy Huckins died of natural causes Monday afternoon. He was found dead at the scene of a fire in Meredith.

Firefighters were called to 203 Pease Road in Meredith around 4 p.m. for a fire that reportedly left two people trapped. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the Cape-style home.

Two people managed to get out safely, but when firefighters entered the building, they found Huckins’ body.

The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined Huckins died of natural causes, officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Meredith Fire Department and Police, is investigating. Meredith rescuers were assisted by nine fire and police departments from throughout the Lakes region.
