On Tuesday, Dorsey Brown, 37, was again charged with two counts of murder.

TRENDING STORIES:

Brown was originally charged with assault and domestic violence in September 2023. The charges stemmed from an alleged assault on Victoria Avenue that same month.

Police were called to a home on Victoria Avenue for reports of an assault that occurred on September 18, 2023. When they arrived at the scene, they found 69-year-old Mitchell Brown in a chair “with several lacerations and ‘dents’ to his head.”

Mitchell’s son, Dorsey, admitted during an interview with police that he “repeatedly struck his father with a lamp,” according to the affidavit and affidavit originally filed in Dayton Municipal Court.

Mitchell died in late October.

“Today’s murder indictment was issued because it was determined that the victim died as a direct result of his injuries,” a spokesman for the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office told News Center 7 on Tuesday.

Court records filed in January in Montgomery County Municipal Court show Brown was found incompetent to stand trial but could be nursed back to health and undergo treatment at Summit Behavioral Healthcare.

An updated evaluation submitted to the court in July showed that his competency had already been restored, but there was “question as to Brown’s current competency.” A second opinion was ordered and had to be submitted to the court by August 30.

No judgment was issued in connection with the second opinion.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court on the new charges on October 8.
